44.

A rare and much needed vacation day for this time of year, spent with the Very Excellent Fiancee (!).  It began with eggs benedict for breakfast…which may have been followed by french macaroons and cupcakes for lunch…and then a walk through Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge in Concord (which, incidentally, now has a $4 entrance fee).  Spring feels so late this year, and even this first day of May was a little gloomy and chilly.  The critters are out and about though, nesting and issuing mating calls from the tops of trees, and nibbling on what is left of last year’s reeds.  Eventually I hope to get to a point in life where seeing a muskrat doesn’t trigger one (or both) of us singing the “Muskrat Love” song, but I’m not holding my breath.
