“Tenacious D” and the Blue Jays

Cleo Front Yard

There are a pair of blue jays nesting in the arbor vitae near the house. At first I was pretty excited about this, but as it turns out blue jays are beautiful but nasty little creatures that enjoy dive bombing things, including people.  And cats.   In particular, this cat – Cleo, aka “Dippy-Do”, aka “Tenacious D”.  Basically, she steps one paw out the door and the jays start squawking to high heaven.  I’ve watched them fly into the side of the house just to ricochet off it, and swoop within inches of the cat’s head.  Personally I wouldn’t tempt fate like that, but these birds seem to have no fear.  Cleo just ignores them and goes about her business; she is much more interested in chasing moths and bees.
